Destined for the world's most beautiful interiors. At Porta Romana, every piece is an original. Produced collaboratively with the most talented craftspeople that the British Isles have to offer, Porta Romana hand-render all products to order, with each piece fully customisable to exact specifications and style. Offering a prestigious portfolio of quick ship table lamps, to fully bespoke decorative lighting, every item is made to order. Creating objects with longevity is at the core of the Porta Romana ethos. In a world fascinating with on demand living and fast fabrication, Porta Romana are seemingly subversive in their approach. Lauding longevity over pure wanton desire for the latest trend, they create precious objects that are designed to be loved for a lifetime. Inspirited by the beauty of our natural surroundings, the ordinary is metamorphosed into something extraordinary; communicating in a design language that challenges the boundaries of convention with an innovative use of techniques and materials, embodying an enviable echelon of raw artistry and awe. Established in 1988 by Andrew & Sarah Hills, Porta Romana has grown exponentially from its humble beginnings in a modest London workshop. Commissioned to create a lighting installation for the Royal Academy of Art, Porta Romana have designed and produced a vast canon of hand-crafted pieces for homes, galleries and hotels around the world. Every glassblower, ceramicist, metalworker and sculptor apply their individual expertise and knowledge in the fabrication of the Porta Romana designs, imprinting each piece with unbounded character and individuality. Dedicated to nurturing established and emerging British artisans and craftspeople, production is predominantly retained on home soil. Taking responsibility for sustainability, Porta Romana dedicate as much thought to their environmental impact as they do to their craft. Making fundamental changes to reduce their environmental impact, Porta Romana are striving to create a more sustainable future for their products. By establishing an in-house lampshade studio in 2020, they have combated 32,500 miles of transportation each year. An impressive 80% of their product range is made within a 45-mile radius of their British-based HQ. Championing sustainable materials and applying consideration to packaging and practices across the business and the wider industry are proof of the Porta Romana commitment.
